Moses

Haven't talked about our child in a while!!! He's been doing really good! It cracks me up b/c he is so accident prone and I make fun of Brian and tell him that he gets it from him. For example, Moses and I were playing outside with the soccer ball and I kicked it and he chased it and was running so fast, that he kinda tripped and sprained his leg or something. He limped for about 3 days before he could walk normaly. SOOO my husband!!! haha! We are having a big problem with him jumping on people. We tried ignoring him when we get home until he sits or lays down and then giving him attention and that sorta works, but he still jumps randomly on us at home. Then, when we have people over he always jumps on them b/c he is so excited. And I hate that!!!! I know people don't want a dog jumping all over them! I want to take him to obedience school but its pretty expensive! Thats really the only thing that he does that I don't like. He knows how to sit, stay, and shake. He's pretty good at coming on command too. But the jumping thing is driving us nuts!! Any suggestions???? Here are some cute pics of Moses:

well when our kid jumps on people, he gets a time out. sheesh, discipline your child why don't ya!

rex reminded me of moses yesterday, his little bottom was itching and he was scooting across the floor on his butt like a puppy. kev and i about fell out laughing. shoulda gotten video, but that's probably pretty mean.

oh btw kev was worried i may have scared you out of having kids by my sleep deprivation horror stories---kids are worth that i promise;-) and i don't know what he REALLY told brian about living with a pregnant woman, but it's not so bad! i think i'm quite nice for feeling like a whale;-)

if you got your dog at the Fayetteville animal shelter, you get half off of obedience school at canine college. it is $35 with the discount. If not it is $70 and it is worth it.

But the most important thing is consistency, if you ever let him jump on you even just when you want him to, he will think it is ok and will never stop. Sam has a problem with putting his paws up on things which is why we never taught him to shake because we didn't want to reward him for putting his paw up.

A solution. you could put him on a lease(a corrective leash would be best) and have him in front of you. place your foot over the leash almost underneath him. that way when he jumps, you can pull up on the leash which will pull down on his coller and tell him no. you have to be pretty coordinated with it and fast. Dogs only have a period of a couple of seconds to be able to place a correction with something they did.

once you have figured out the mechanics of it you can start tempting him with treats or something he likes and only give the treats when he doesn't jump. you may have to start giving the treat when he doesn't jump for a couple of seconds and then increase the time between rewards.

after that you will need to do it with a volunteer friend because you can get him perfect with you guys and he might not associate it with other people so you will have to get someone to help.

I hope that made since, cause I don't want to proof read it, it is to long.

If he knows to sit on command, why don't you practice having Brian go outside, you making Mo sit and stay then work on keeping him there while Brian walks back in.
